Few if any have done as much to celebrate the life and music of Peter Allen as Todd McKenney, who delighted audiences as the original star of the musical The Boy From Oz and who has been shaking Allen’s maracas ever since in various different style entertainments.
In his new show Todd McKenney Sings Peter Allen: The Piano Sessions, he invites you to get up close and personal in an intimate, relaxed setting: just him, Michael Rohenak on grand piano and Allen’s fantastic songs. At the same time, it’s a chance to get to know the real McKenney.
As well as singing all of Allen’s biggest hits including Not The Boy Next Door, (I Go to) Rio, I Honestly Love You, Tenterfield Saddler and I Still Call Australia Home, he will tell stories about meeting Allen and playing him on stage. He will also share some hilarious anecdotes and some cheeky backstage gossip from Dancing With the Stars.
Audiences are encouraged to ask questions and even score him if they like (bring your judge’s score cards – he’ll cop it sweet!). It’s all about having fun with a lot of laughs, a few poignant moments and some great music.
“I think the point of doing a one-man show is to give the audience a sense of the real Todd McKenney, not just the person they see on stage or television, so this is a very personal show,” says McKenney. “I have wanted to tour regional Australia for many years and I’m thrilled that I now have time in my schedule to do this.”
